Dr. Ronda Benson Ford is currently instructor of flute at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, instructor of flute and piano at Dalton State College in Dalton, Georgia, and a teacher at the Cadek Conservatory of Music. She is a member of Fuze Trio, a cutting-edge chamber music ensemble, with University of Tennessee at Chattanooga faculty Erika Schafer, trumpet, and Jenny Parker, piano. The group performs eclectic repertoire from commissioned world premieres and other modern compositions to arrangements of traditional classical music and popular music, including arrangements by group members themselves. The group had its inaugural performance in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in February 2018, premiering its first commission—Michael Broder’s Con ritmo. The group has performed recitals in North Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama, and performed at the 2019 College Music Society South Central Conference at the University of Texas at Tyler. Ford is the principal flutist with the UTC Community Orchestra and previously performed with the Topeka Symphony, the Overland Park Orchestra, and with several orchestras in Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Texas, and Arkansas. She has performed and served as a panel member for several National Flute Association Conventions. Ford has performed with The International Flute Orchestra in Japan, Prague, Hungary, Slovenia, and Italy. She has been featured on Mississippi Public Radio, Three Plus You, and This and That. Ford has had articles published in the peer reviewed Flutist Quarterly journal and Flute Talk magazine. She has served on the faculties of Lee University, Western State Colorado University, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, National American University, Truman State University, Park University, Missouri Western State University, Kansas City Kansas Community College, and Parkland College. She has taught a wide variety of courses including music appreciation, music history, music theory, aural skills, studio flute, studio piano, studio recorder, flute ensemble, flute literature, woodwind methods, and recorder ensemble. The collegiate ensembles she worked with included music major, music minors, and non-music majors. She received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in flute performance and pedagogy from the University of Southern Mississippi, her Master of Music degree in flute performance from Illinois State University, and her Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Central Arkansas. Ford’s teachers have included John Bailey, Danilo Mezzadri, Kyril Magg, Alexander Murray, Max Schoenfeld, Bootsie Mayfield, and Carolyn Brown. She has played in masterclasses for Göran Marcusson, Walfrid Kujala, Gary Schocker, and Louis Moyse. She lives in Chattanooga with her husband, Brian, and her dog, Lily.
